FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
How often should I get a facial?
One of the most commonly asked questions in my practice is, "How often should I get a facial?" The answer is: there is no cut-and-dried answer!
This is a time when I answer a question with a question, "What are your skin-related goals?" The right answer for each individual is based upon their goals for their skin, along with their own personal time and budget constraints. With that information, we can work together to establish the perfect treatment plan.
In general terms, I recommend scheduling a facial every 1-3 months. Obviously, more frequent visits will result in more noticeable strides toward your skin-related goals. At a minimum, scheduling every 3 months would allow us to see each other and refresh your skin at least once each season. Most of my clients find that scheduling their facials 4-6 weeks apart is the perfect interval to keep their skin looking and feeling its best!
Will my hair grow back darker or more coarse after the dermaplane procedure?
No. Your hair will grow back exactly like it is right now.
Does dermaplaning hurt?
No. Many clients say that they find the rhythmic pattern and sound to be relaxing.
What skin care concerns are addressed by a chemical peel?
A chemical peel is an excellent choice for clients who are concerned with sun damage, melasma, hyperpigmentation, fine lines, wrinkles, uneven texture, breakouts, large pores, or rosacea.
Who is not a good candidate for a chemical peel?
Clients who are pregnant or nursing, prone to cold sores, have numerous open acne lesions, are experiencing sunburn, have been waxed within the last 2-3 days, are using retinols, or have very sensitive skin may not be good candidates for a chemical peel.
What kind of preparation do I need to do before a chemical peel?
Clients who use a retinol product should discontinue use of the retinol 2-3 days prior to the treatment. It is also recommended that clients take an over the counter supplement such as Lysine to prevent cold sores starting one day before the treatment and continuing for 5 days post treatment. Clients who are concerned with sun damage are advised to use a tyrosinaise inhibitor, such as Sorella’s Lemon Lightening Serum or Societe's Skin Brightening Pads, before and after the treatment.
What is the recovery like for a chemical peel?
The recovery is different for each person. Some people experience mild redness, peeling or flaking, while others do not. Clients should stay out of the sun for 72 hours. Retinols can be continued 2-3 days post-peel. I finish each chemical peel treatment with a soothing hydrojelly mask that reduces the side effects of the peel by soothing & cooling the skin, constricting pores, and increasing the absorption of active ingredients.
